My journey into workplace wellness started with a profound passion for well-being. As a member of the ‘Fluro Friday – One Wave’ surf community in Bondi Beach, I witnessed the power of surf and conversations on mental health coming together. This experience ignited my desire to promote wellness within my professional realm.
Connecting in a Remote World: When I joined Objective Experience in 2021, the world was grappling with lockdowns, and remote work became the new norm. I faced the initial challenge of fostering meaningful connections with my teammates, miles apart from each other.
Pitching the Wellness Program:
I decided to take action and spoke with James Breeze, the CEO of the agency, about implementing a wellness program. To my delight, James was incredibly supportive of the idea. I proposed that our team gather weekly to connect, discuss mental health, engage in games, and share personal stories. My vision was to create a safe space for everyone to connect, especially during the challenging times brought about by COVID-19.
Results and Impact:
The sessions did wonders for our team dynamics. I not only got to know my colleagues on a deeper level but also started feeling like an integral part of the team. James, who has been running the business for 15 years, even expressed that he now understands his staff better than ever before.
Wellness Week 2021:
Inspired by ‘R U OK?’ Day, James and I collaborated to launch a Wellness Week in 2021. The week was packed with insightful guest speakers and a wellness challenge that featured exciting prizes for our staff across Singapore and Australia. Feel free to check out the video below for an in-depth look at our Wellness Week in 2021:
Wellness Week 2023:
This year, we’re gearing up for another wellness week, complete with engaging team activities, three inspiring guest speakers, and an exciting wellness challenge. A big shout-out to our wonderful guest speakers Walid Aboulnaga, Ale Lasas and Laura Chanloup – Transformational Coach – Energy Leadership Master Practitioner
Embracing the Figma Challenge:
On a personal quest to enhance my visual design skills, I embarked on a unique challenge: designing the Wellness Week 2023 marketing content on Figma without relying on templates. It was a great exercise!
In Conclusion:
Employee wellness has taken center stage in today’s workplaces, and it’s no longer a nice-to-have but a must-have. Nurturing physical and mental well-being is essential for personal and professional growth. I encourage all organizations to explore and implement wellness initiatives that foster a thriving, connected, and healthier work environment.
